It Happened On Tuesday

On Tuesday Tyler woke up with a cough and a fever. It ruined our plans to go have a water play day with our friends, but he wasn't about to let it ruin his fun. Considering he acted perfectly normal, I didn't see the harm in playing outside, as long as we didn't expose anyone to our dreaded illness.

So what do you do when you have to play outside all by your lonesome?

Grab some sidewalk chalk and start drawing away! Of course, lines are the "in" thing to draw these days, especially if you are two and you inherited your drawing skills from your mom (a.k.a. LACK of drawing skills).

But you definitely should watch out for ants! They might crawl all over you. Hurry! Put your feet up!!

Hmmm...what a color selection. What should I use now?

The look I usually get when he is plotting something...This time it was just to ask for some gum. Who knows what it will be next time. A pony?

You could also pick some flowers. Dandelions are the best kind cause they are free, don't belong to anyone, and grow back nearly as fast as you pick them. They also fit perfectly in the bud vase on my kitchen table.

But don't let the flowers keep you from climbing and exploring. Tyler couldn't resist the "steps" that lead to nowhere and the ledge. I asked him if he wanted to smell the daffodils and he replied "no mommy, they're not ours."

You could also take some time to run after butterflies. Chances are you might never catch them, but they are worth the thrill of the chase.

You could also stop to take in some sports. The local elementary school just happened to have a recess soccer game going when we passed by. The only problem was holding back Tyler so he didn't join them. Although the recess aides might not mind a two year old joining in the fun, they might look suspiciously on a (insert age here) Mom running after him.

Make sure you also catch a couple of minutes in the baseball "dugout." You can't really get a feel for the game unless you spend some time on the benches.

And lastly, you have to eat some popsicles. And by some, I mean more than one!

That's nice that you can still have fun- even with a sick child! He seems like Madi- even with a fever he'll be super happy!

Tyler is so cute! I wish my kids were more like him and acted normal when they are sick. I love your posts about daily life and great job on the bows. Now you just need a little girl to put them on :)

in one of the pics, Tyler's hair looked to be Strawberry Blonde. Is it?
