For my birthday, my wonderful husband surprised me with tickets to see New York City Ballet last night at the Kennedy Center. My sister-in-law and I headed out for a girly night in DC. After getting slightly, but not repairably lost, we made it to the Kennedy Center and paid the outrageous amount of $18 for parking. (Just because you overspend on the garage doesn't mean you should make poor patrons make up for the cost).
The ballet was a collection of repertory works from George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. We saw Mozartiana, Dances at a Gathering, and Stravinsky Violin Concerto. Dances at a Gathering was definitely my favorite - the costumes were colorful and flowy, and the dancing was excellent. There was lots of lifting and partnering, and the music was upbeat and fun to go with the slight amount of comedy choreographed into the dancing.
Anyhow, basically I wanted to give a shout out to my AWESOME husband who was so sweet to surprise me with something I love so much. I had a great time and I wish I could make this a birthday tradition every year. Now, if only tickets weren't so dang expensive...
